Zoom Meeting with Self Help for the Elderly at 11 District
         Time:10/1/2020 Thursday 1:30-2:30PM
Co-host: Catherine He
Speaker: Hazel Lee

Description: This zoom meeting was in partnership with Self Help for the Elderly. 22 seniors attended the meeting. It took place during Autumn Moon Festival holiday, so some people couldn’t attend. Topics discussed included why Asian Americans choose not to vote. Many think that our votes don’t matter because we make up less than 6% of the US population. We stressed the importance of voting in local elections; for policies that will more directly affect the city voters are living in. We explained that city/ county propositions outcomes are determined by the people.
We showed the 20min voting education video and reminded attendees that the last day to register to vote is 10/19 and if they are not yet registered to call the number 415-554-4367 or visit the website registertovote.ca.gov. Introduced rank choice voting by showing the Department of Elections training video and explaining that Districts 1,3,5,7,9,and 11 will be using this method to vote for their district supervisors. Voters may rank up to 10 candidates in a given contest. Closing statements urged the meeting attendees to encourage both their English speaking generation and older non -English speaking generation to vote.
